Chemical Bonding

Currently in Introduction to Chemistry and Physics we are studying Chemical Bonding.
We have finished day 1 objectives. This class is designed for the non-college bound students. It is a survey of Chemistry and Physics. We have studied Matter, Atoms, and the Periodic Table.

Unit Objectives
Day 1 -2. Construct and/or interpret diagrams that illustrate ionic and covalent bonding.
Day 2 -3. Predict compound formation and bond type as either ionic or covalent
Day 4. Represent the products formed with simple chemical formulas.
Day 5 - 6. Identify and test variables that affect reaction rates.
Day 7 -8. Use evidence/data from chemical reactions to predict the effect of changes in variables.
Day 9-10. Relate the chemical behavior of an element, including bonding, to its location on the periodic table.
Day 11-12. Explain the role of intermolecular or intramolecular interactions on physical properties.

Lesson Ideas:

Day 1 : Fruity Pebble Lewis Diagrams - use fruity pebbles as the electrons for metals to show the electron transfer from metals to non metals in ionic bonds.

Calling all Science Teachers!

Hello!
I am a Physics teacher in my third year of teaching High School. The purpose of this blog is to set up a place for Science teachers to communicate ideas for lessons, labs, and for the classroom. Collaboration brings about the best results for all involved. If you have any suggestions, ideas, or questions please feel free to post here.
